The Black Rhino
The Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis), commonly known as the Black Rhino, is described as a magnificent creature with a prehistoric appearance. The number of existing Black Rhino in Sub-Saharan Africa has declined dramatically during the past century. The main reason for the decline in the Black Rhino population has been poaching by man.
In many parts of Asia and the Middle East, the rhino horn has been thought to have medicinal properties and carries a cultural value. Although modern medicine has not validated the medicinal properties of the horn, the cultural value still exists. Unfortunately, poachers kill Black Rhino for their horn only, leaving their carcass to rot.
